Guide To Finding An Apartment in Quezon City

Guide To Finding An Apartment in Quezon City

The Beginnings of Quezon City

Quezon City was founded by its namesake, the late president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines Manuel Luiz Quezon. His vision was to create a grand capital of our country back then, a city patterned after the seat of governments in the Western Hemisphere – much like Washington DC.

Acting on this vision, President Elpidio Quirino commissioned Architect Juan Arellano and a bunch of American architects who drafted a master plan:

  • The executive mansion or Malacañang on the present Veterans Hospital
  • The Supreme Court on the current East Avenue Medical Center
  • The Philippine Military Academy on what is now the Batasan Complex
  • A 400 hectare central park on the present UP Diliman Campus

Other plans included a boulevard lined with embassies of different countries on Tandang Sora, and even a plan to purchase Marikina and make it a natural reserve as Commonwealth avenue overlooks the eastern territory.

The Modern Quezon City

Quezon City right now boasts of its own commercial districts in Eastwood, North Triangle and Araneta Center where one can work, party and wind down after a busy day.

The city also has its own version of University Belt, with prestigious universities such as University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila and Miriam College having setup their campuses in the Katipunan area. Other notable colleges and universities that established their presence are New Era University in Commonwealth, Far Eastern University in Diliman, National University in Fairview and Quezon City Polytechnic in Batasan and Bago Bantay.

The vast expanse of the city is a haven for suburbanites, as it used to be the bedroom district of the dynamic cities of Makati and Manila. Posh villages such as La Vista, Tierra Pura Homes, Mira-Nila and Loyola Grand Villas are known to have politicians and celebrities as inhabitants with city hosting several national government offices and two of the biggest television networks in the country.

The projects (Project 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8) which were allocated for government employee housing in the 1960s also offer suburban settings for students and office workers that are near major thoroughfares and commercial establishments.

Quezon City used to be a sleepy suburb – the bedroom of the more dynamic cities of Makati and Manila. But things have changed much in the last 30 years, that it has become one of the Philippines’ premier locations to live, work, play and study.

Floor area, shared or exclusive use bathrooms, living area: Bigger families obviously require greater apartment square footage as opposed to fresh graduates and single urban professionals. Apartments in the city also range from offering bed spaces with communal kitchen and bath to those with exclusive bathrooms for each unit.

Access to special facilities such as ramps and elevators: A special law in the  City for PWDs BP 344 has yet to be fully implemented in dwellings in the city, as such it’s a challenge for differently-abled citizens to search for apartments with suitable facilities especially for those in the lower to middle price range.
